Hernando County residents who haul trash, yard waste or bulky debris to the East Hernando or West Hernando convenience centers will start paying $5 to $15 per visit on June 1.

The county said the fee changes were approved by the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 16, 2025, and were posted in a notice on May 14. The East Hernando Convenience Center is at 33070 Cortez Blvd. in Ridge Manor, and the West Hernando Convenience Center is at 2525 Osowaw Blvd. in Spring Hill.

The centers are for residential use only, and only for property owners and residents who pay the annual solid waste disposal assessment through their property taxes. That puts the change squarely on households that clean out garages, trim yards, tackle home projects or bring in debris that does not fit curbside pickup.

Starting June 1, the new schedule charges $5.00 for up to five bags of household trash. Loads with more than five bags, along with bulk loads, will cost $15.00 per visit. Yard waste items such as branches under 8 inches in diameter and less than 10 inches in length also will cost $15.00 per visit.

Not everything at the centers will carry a fee. Recycling and residential household hazardous waste will continue to be accepted free of charge if clearly identifiable, and mulch will remain free to residents with no quantity limit as long as supply is available. The county also said self-loading is welcome, and staff may help with loading when equipment operators are available and a signed waiver is required.

The change lands in a county system that already charges far more for other disposal streams. Hernando County’s posted fees include $60.50 for Class I non-hazardous waste, $54.50 for yard waste, $76.00 for construction and demolition debris, $150 for automobile tires, $200 for off-road tires and $230 for a travel trailer or RV without tires.

County officials have framed the broader solid-waste program as a long-running cost issue. Hernando County says its disposal assessment has been billed annually to residential property owners since fiscal year 1990-1991, and the county says it is building the next garbage cell at a cost of $28 million.

The convenience-center update is part of that larger shift. Hernando County’s solid waste system serves unincorporated Hernando County and the City of Brooksville, and residents who rely on the East and West centers for the cheapest or easiest way to unload debris will feel the increase first.
