Hernando High wins FHSAA 1A District 6 wrestling tournament; Weeki Wachee bronze

The Hernando Leopards took first place at the FHSAA 1A District 6 Tournament held at Hernando High School in Brooksville, producing six district champions and closing the dual season with a 7-1 record. The meet ran Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, with Hernando County Schools noted for a strong showing across the 14 weight classes.

Leopards Wrestling Head Coach David Pritz summed up the team result succinctly: "We finished with six district champs," and praised individual grit after the meet. "All six of them wrestled great! Jacob Fetzner was extremely sick all week and he showed up for the team and finished in first place. I am extremely proud of his performance."

Hernando’s six district champions included Corbin at 106 pounds, who defeated Nature Coast’s Zachary Myers, and Cael Helm at 132 pounds, who beat Mount Dora’s Kollen Staab. David Moen (138), Jacob Fetzner (144), Terrance Shields (150) and William Blair (285) rounded out Hernando’s six champions, with Hernando Sun reporting those four defeated challengers from Mount Dora, First Academy-Leesburg, and Weeki Wachee in advancing to titles.

William Blair’s run at 285 pounds featured a fall over The First Academy’s Leonel Rivera midway through the second period in the quarterfinals, a 4-0 semifinal win, and a 6-3 victory over Weeki Wachee’s Jeronimo Perez in the championship match. Weeki Wachee finished third overall and earned the bronze placement for the district meet.

Hernando also placed multiple wrestlers on the podium beyond its champions. Runner-ups included Dameon Lopez, Kian Blyss and Leonard Young, and Hernando took two bronze medals through Jacob Walker at 113 pounds and Chase Monsegur-Brunet at 165 pounds.
