Jennifer Wallace called it "absolutely ecstatic" — the moment she opened her Match Day results and saw Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville listed as her internal medicine residency site. For Hernando County, her placement represents a direct connection between one of the world's largest medical schools and the hospital on Cortez Boulevard that serves this community.

Celebration swept through St. George's University School of Medicine on Friday as students learned where their medical journeys would take them next, with more than 804 students and graduates securing first-year U.S. residency positions. A subsequent announcement put the confirmed total at 818 students and graduates who secured residency positions across the United States so far in this year's Match cycle. SGU noted the numbers are still expected to climb in the coming weeks.

Wallace, listed as Jennifer Wallace, MD '26 (expected), matched into internal medicine at HCA Florida/University of South Florida Oak Hill in Brooksville — her first choice. "I was absolutely ecstatic — it was the moment everything finally felt real after all the hard work," she said. "Matching at my number one choice made it even more special, and it still feels a bit unreal."

The Internal Medicine Residency program at Oak Hill trains future physicians alongside leading experts in the field. It is a fully accredited three-year training pathway designed to provide residents with a diverse range of clinical experiences that prepare them for clinical practice and potential board certification. The training occurs at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital, a 350-bed facility equipped with advanced medical technologies.

Wallace's residency will begin this summer. Looking ahead to the work, she kept her focus on continued growth: "I'm excited to continue learning and growing as an internal medicine resident. Every step of this journey showed me how much there is still to learn, and that's what motivates me."

Students matched into 23 specialties across 42 states and the District of Columbia, with additional graduates expected to secure placements in the coming weeks as the Match process continues. For the past twelve years, St. George's University has been the largest provider of new doctors to the U.S. healthcare system, with approximately two-thirds of its School of Medicine graduates entering primary care specialties.

SGU president and dean of the School of Medicine Dr. Marios Loukas framed the day in terms of the long path each student traveled to get there. "Match Day is a defining milestone that reflects years of resilience, determination, and purpose," he said. "Our students have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to their calling, and we are proud to see them step forward to serve patients and communities around the world."

This year, SGU celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1976, and more than 33,000 SGU graduates are now physicians, veterinarians, scientists, and public health and business professionals around the world. For Brooksville, one of those graduates will soon be rounding on patients just down the road.
