Springstead turned a construction detour into a rout Monday night, blanking Wesley Chapel 48-0 at Central High School’s Bears’ Den in Brooksville after its own field was under construction.

The Eagles turned the Class 3A District 8 semifinal into a one-sided showcase, intercepting Wesley Chapel quarterback Violet Capps three times and never letting the Wildcats settle in. Springstead, which entered at 12-3, looked comfortable from the opening snaps despite the unusual venue change and played like a team peaking at the right time.

That mattered well beyond the scoreboard. A 48-0 playoff shutout is a loud signal in any district bracket, and for Springstead it underscored how complete the team looked on both sides of the ball. Head coach David Kortman’s group did not just survive a last-minute shift away from Springstead High School in Spring Hill, it used the setting to deliver its most emphatic postseason statement yet.

The win sent the No. 2 seed Eagles into the district final against top-seeded Land O’ Lakes, with the bracket placing that matchup on Wednesday, April 22. For Hernando County fans following the spring sports calendar, the result gives Springstead a clear claim as one of the county’s strongest title threats, especially after a performance that combined defensive pressure, short fields and a relentless finish.

The matchup also carried a familiar local edge. Springstead had already handled Wesley Chapel in a football meeting in October 2024, winning 26-3, but this postseason meeting was even more lopsided and came with more at stake. In a playoff format where one mistake can end a season, Springstead made sure Wesley Chapel never found a foothold.
