Springstead, Nature Coast softball teams surge in late-season wins
Springstead stretched its winning streak to 11 and Nature Coast sharpened a 17-4 resume, putting both Hernando County softball teams in strong position as district play neared.

Springstead and Nature Coast spent the final days of the regular season turning wins into postseason leverage, with district seeding and playoff momentum tightening around two of Hernando County’s hottest teams.
Springstead High School reached 16-1 and extended its winning streak to 11 games with a run of close, meaningful victories. Alivia Miller struck out 13 over eight innings and helped finish a 5-1 win over Mitchell with a three-run home run in the final extra frame. Miller followed that with 11 strikeouts in four scoreless innings as the Eagles edged Hudson 5-4, then Springstead finished the stretch with a 4-2 road win at Gulf. Kaylana Lyons, Lili Klink, Audrina Savarese, Rachel Rivera, Kamie Pond, ElleAnn Cephus, Sophia Whitacre and Amelia Lack all chipped in as the Eagles kept finding production beyond the circle.
Nature Coast Tech High School matched that late-season surge with a 17-4 record, a 4-1 mark in district play and a fifth straight win as it headed deeper into the schedule. The Sharks had already beaten Weeki Wachee 10-0 on April 1 and Seven Rivers Christian 16-0 on April 2, then outscored opponents 65-2 across six games during a stretch that underscored how dominant their run had become. Nature Coast then knocked off Zephyrhills 16-3, outlasted Citrus 6-5 and blasted Fivay 16-1. Kam Ross threw a no-hitter in three innings against Fivay while also contributing at the plate, giving the Sharks another reminder that their ceiling rises when the pitching and offense click together.

The numbers behind Nature Coast’s season tell the same story. The Sharks had scored 188 runs and allowed 43, a margin that left them sixth in Region 3A-2 and well positioned as district play approached. The challenge for Nature Coast was not getting attention. It was carrying that balance into the next round while keeping the bats loud enough for the postseason.
Hernando High School added to the county’s strong finish in flag football, closing the regular season with a 49-0 win over River Ridge. Carlie Grant completed 20 of 25 passes for 195 yards and four touchdown throws, Aajyrah Adams caught five passes for 55 yards and two scores, and Grant also ran for a touchdown. Loralei Delmont and Ayana Kincade added touchdown catches as Hernando wrapped up a dominant run that included the program’s first county championship under Tyson Ellis.
