Hernando County riders will get two new fixed-route options starting May 4, and the biggest change is simple: more people in Spring Hill and along the US-19 corridor will be able to reach work, school, medical visits and grocery stores without depending on a car.

TheBus will add Route 10 and Route 11 as loop service from the Walmart on SR 50. Route 10 will connect that east-west retail hub to the Publix on County Line Road, with service along Anderson Snow Road, Elgin Boulevard, Deltona Boulevard, Cortez Boulevard and Barclay Avenue. The county says it will tie together East Spring Hill neighborhoods and shopping stops including Publix at Avalon, Anderson Snow Park Splash Pad, the Walmart Neighborhood Market and the Walmart on Cortez.

Route 11 reaches farther and creates the more regional connection. It will run between the Walmart on SR 50 and the Publix in Sugarmill Woods in Citrus County, with service on Commercial Way, also known as US-19, plus Hexam Road, Sunshine Grove Road and connections to Cortez Boulevard. For commuters who move between Hernando and Citrus counties, the route adds a direct transit option across a stretch where driving has long been the easiest choice.

The county’s transit office said the expansion is part of a broader effort to widen practical transportation access for riders who do not drive and for residents trying to cut down on fuel costs, parking and repeated car trips. Hernando County already operates Routes 1 through 9, and Route 9, the Mermaid Route, opened July 21, 2025 between Walmart US 19 and Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park. The new additions build on that pattern of staged growth, with Route 10 aimed at local connectivity and Route 11 acting as a wider cross-county link.

TheBus is funded through grants from the Federal Transit Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation, along with a required county local match. The system is a cooperative effort involving the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners, the Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization, the City of Brooksville, FDOT, FTA and RATP Dev, and transit planning is guided by a 10-year Transit Development Plan that is fully updated every five years and tracked with annual progress reports. County documents also show TheBus connects with Pasco County Public Transportation on the Purple and Blue routes.

Riders can reach TheBus at 700 Aeriform Dr. in Brooksville, FL 34601, or call the transit office at (352) 754-4444. Fares can be paid with cash, a monthly paper pass, the Token Transit app or an ADA Eligibility Photo ID Card, and the county says drivers do not carry cash, so riders should bring exact change.
