Two injured in Hernando County crash near Cortez Boulevard, Mondon Hill Road
Two people were taken to different medical facilities after a crash just north of Cortez Boulevard and Mondon Hill Road, a corridor that can snarl quickly in Brooksville.

Two people were injured Friday afternoon in a crash just north of Cortez Boulevard and Mondon Hill Road, and Hernando County Fire Rescue split the patients between a local hospital and a trauma center.
HCFR said crews from Station 7 and Rescue 8 responded to the traffic crash on May 15, 2026, in a stretch of road that carries steady local and commuter traffic through the Brooksville area. Cortez Boulevard is one of Hernando County’s key east-west routes, and Mondon Hill Road serves as a major connector for neighborhoods, schools and commercial traffic, making any wreck there a disruption that can ripple well beyond the immediate scene.
The transport decisions suggest the call was treated as serious from the start. One patient went to a local hospital, while the second was taken to a trauma center for higher-level care. That kind of split response usually means firefighters and paramedics found injuries that required different levels of treatment.
Hernando County Fire Rescue describes its mission as preserving life, protecting property and safeguarding the community, and county pages say the agency responds to accidents and other emergencies. In this case, the response came quickly from Station 7, which HCFR has previously identified as being on Mondon Hill Road. An earlier HCFR post also described a rollover crash in the 2400 block of Mondon Hill Road that sent one patient to a local hospital and caused delays in the area, a reminder that the corridor has drawn repeated emergency responses.

The crash remained a developing incident, and officials did not immediately release the cause, the types of vehicles involved or whether any citations would follow. Neither the victims nor any investigating agency had been identified in the initial information, leaving the key questions for follow-up as the county waits for more details on what happened just north of the Cortez Boulevard intersection.
