Weeki Wachee Beats Gulf Buccaneers to Win Third Straight 4A District Title
Weeki Wachee won its third straight 4A District 9 girls basketball title, using a dominant second quarter and a strong second half to pull away from Gulf at the Hornets' Nest.

Weeki Wachee clinched a third consecutive 4A District 9 championship at the Hornets' Nest, overwhelming the Gulf Buccaneers with a decisive second-quarter burst and a suffocating second-half push. The victory continues the Hornets' local run of dominance and gives Hernando County fans another reason to rally behind the Green and Black.
The game was back-and-forth early before Weeki Wachee exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Gulf 18-5 to build a double-digit lead. The Hornets did not let up after halftime, outpacing the Buccaneers 29-11 in the second half and turning a competitive start into a wide-margin victory. A final box score with exact point totals and full individual stats had not been released at press time.
Junior point guard Karly Pasmore led the charge with a team-high 19 points and was perfect from the free-throw line in the title game, going 2 of 2. Combined with her performance in the district semifinal against Nature Coast, Pasmore has totaled 37 postseason points and is a flawless 14 of 14 on free throws across those games. Coach Hughes praised Pasmore's floor game and endurance, saying, "Karly Pasmore had a terrific game for us." He added, "The whole season long, she has been our anchor at point guard... Karly, she finished with 19 points - unbelievable..." and, "At the end of the day, Karly Pasmore is truly the heartbeat of the team because we are making her do things she doesn't want to do. She plays 30 out of the 32 minutes every game."
Junior Joelys Rodriguez returned from an earlier-season ACL tear and contributed 12 points while managed on a pitch count; Coach Hughes noted that Rodriguez "elevates everyone's playing" around her. Senior Genesis Beal, who shifted from post to guard during the season, added 12 points, and sophomore Isabella Priester chipped in 11, giving Weeki Wachee four double-digit scorers in the championship game.
The Hornets enter the offseason picture reported with a 17-10 mark and Gulf listed at 10-10, figures reflective of season tallies circulating after district play. Weeki Wachee's recent calendar also included a one-point loss to Hernando earlier in the week, a reminder that the county's girls basketball landscape has been tightly contested.
The district weekend was a broader celebration of local hoops, with several nearby programs also collecting district crowns and extending streaks across North Central Florida. For Hernando County, Weeki Wachee's third straight district title cements the Hornets as a county power and keeps community momentum high heading into the next phase of the postseason. Expect local support to follow the team into the regional round as the Hornets look to parlay district success into deeper postseason runs.
