Las Vegas police are investigating a deadly robbery and kidnapping that began as a stolen-car case and ended in a fatal crash near the 4400 block of West Charleston Boulevard, close to Arville Street. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says the suspect is believed to be in his 50s, is already in custody, and is expected to face open murder charges.

Officers responded at about 10:59 a.m. Friday, April 11, to reports of a crash with injuries in the west Las Vegas valley. Investigators say the vehicles involved were a black Hyundai Sonata and a silver minivan. The Hyundai had two occupants. The driver suffered minor injuries, while the passenger was critically hurt and later died at the hospital.

Police say the case started as a theft in a Walmart parking lot, where a man in his 30s was sleeping in the passenger seat of a running car. Investigators said the suspect entered through the unlocked driver’s side door and drove off with the victim still inside. Police described the case as a crime of opportunity, and said the victim did not know the suspect.

The stolen Hyundai reportedly rear-ended the minivan, then kept going through the intersection of Charleston and Essex before crashing into a boulder and a pole. LVMPD later posted a press release titled Kidnapped Passenger Killed During Crash on April 12, 2026, as detectives continued piecing together the sequence of events and what charges would follow.
