East Holmes Board Approves Coaching Staff, School Calendar Draft
At its Dec. 19 meeting the East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education approved a series of personnel and routine business items that shape athletics, testing and district planning for the coming school year. The actions affect coach appointments, a first draft of the 2026 27 calendar, testing format for third grade assessments and an eighth grade civic trip, all of which carry direct implications for families, staff and district resources.

The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met on Dec. 19 and moved forward on personnel assignments, administrative renewals and student opportunities that will influence operations and programming through the 2026 27 school year. Among the personnel actions the board approved the appointment of Matt Beechy as head girls varsity soccer coach and a slate of supplemental positions across baseball, softball, tennis and track. The board also approved chaperone assignments for an upcoming eighth grade field trip to Washington, D.C.
Administratively the board approved draft number one of the 2026 27 school calendar, a step that sets the framework for instructional days, breaks and family planning while allowing for public feedback before final adoption. The board renewed membership in the Ohio School Boards Association and continued enrollment in the association legal assistance fund, preserving access to statewide training and legal resources that inform district policy and risk management.
On academic administration the board authorized paper format administration for third grade English language arts and math state assessments in the 2026 27 year. That decision signals a district determination about testing modality that has implications for technology deployment, accommodations and how classroom schedules will be arranged during testing windows.

The board recognized Hiland WKLM Students of the Week and accepted donations for the theater department, reflecting local support for extracurricular and arts programming. The approved Hiland eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. connects students to civic learning outside the classroom while requiring ongoing attention to supervision, safety planning and budgetary considerations.
The meeting included an executive session for personnel and security matters before the board adjourned, a routine procedure that limits public deliberation on those topics while preserving confidentiality. For residents the actions taken on Dec. 19 will translate into staffing stability for athletics, a preliminary calendar to guide family planning, defined testing formats that affect classroom routines and an approved civic opportunity for middle school students. Residents can follow future agendas to track final calendar adoption and other decisions that affect district priorities and resources.
