West Holmes celebrates Class of 2026 graduation, bright futures ahead

West Holmes seniors crossed the stage at West Holmes High School with families looking on, marking a step from the classroom toward college, jobs, apprenticeships, military service and hometown plans across Holmes County. The Class of 2026 ceremony filled the high school at 10909 OH-39 in Millersburg, where graduates, parents, teachers and neighbors gathered for a two-hour commencement that put the district’s next chapter on display.

The West Holmes Local School District calendar listed the graduation ceremony for Sunday, May 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the last day of school followed on Thursday, May 28. That timing made commencement part of the final stretch of the school year, not just a single ceremony, and it gave the community one more chance to recognize the students who have spent years moving through the district together.

Senior class officer Jevin Zheng opened the ceremony by welcoming the crowd and thanking the people who had helped the graduates along the way. His role reflected what the day meant for many in the building: not simply the end of high school, but a public thank-you to the adults who kept the class moving forward through classes, activities, deadlines and everyday support.

That sense of completion had already been building for months. In a March 13 letter to seniors and parents and guardians, the district described the end of the school year as the end of a “long journey.” By early May, school announcements had added the practical reminders that come with that finish line. Seniors were told outstanding fees and lunch charges had to be paid by Monday, May 11, in order to receive a diploma at graduation, and they were asked to confirm the spelling of their names for diplomas.

West Holmes also pressed seniors to turn in yearbook materials, including a photo, a meaningful quote or accomplishment, future plans and a baby picture, all through the Class of 2026 Google Classroom. Those requests turned the final weeks into a record of who these students have been and where they are headed next.

For families in Berlin, Millersburg and the wider district, the ceremony carried the weight of a community milestone. WKLM 95.3 FM scheduled a livestream of the commencement, extending the celebration beyond the gym or auditorium walls and into homes and workplaces across Holmes County. As the Class of 2026 moved on, West Holmes sent out a group of graduates shaped by local schools, local support and the expectations of a county that will soon welcome them back in new roles.
