Eureka Begins Road Work on McCullens, F and Fairfield Streets
Eureka begins road work on McCullens, F and Fairfield streets, creating daytime closures and short detours that will affect local travel and access.

Road construction has started on three Eureka corridors, bringing controlled traffic, intersection closures and short detours that will affect weekday travel for residents, commuters and local businesses. The City of Eureka says the work is part of routine street and sidewalk maintenance intended to keep roads safe and serviceable.
Work began January 19 on McCullens Avenue between Broadway and Utah Streets and on F Street between Harris Street and the south city limits. Road crews began additional work today on Fairfield Street between Del Norte and Henderson Streets. Intersections within these project areas will have closures during the daytime period of 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, weather permitting.
Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians should expect controlled traffic and short delays in the affected zones. The City of Eureka plans detours and traffic control measures to maintain flow and access where possible, and residents will receive notices describing the specific locations and extent of upcoming work as the schedule progresses. The city emphasizes that these disruptions are temporary and necessary to preserve the condition of local streets and sidewalks.
Local impacts will be felt most strongly during the daytime commute and by nearby businesses that rely on curb access. Drivers using Broadway, Utah, Harris, Del Norte and Henderson Streets should allow extra travel time and anticipate changed turning movements or lane restrictions at intersections. Bicyclists and pedestrians who regularly use F Street and McCullens Avenue should be prepared for altered sidewalks or crosswalk access while crews are on site.
The City of Eureka frames the maintenance as a public-safety priority, noting that keeping pavement and pedestrian infrastructure in good repair reduces long-term costs and supports emergency response access. City crews will monitor weather conditions and adjust the work schedule as necessary; work may be postponed on rainy or otherwise unsafe days.
For residents and businesses, short-term inconvenience is the trade-off for longer-term reliability of streets and sidewalks. Expect additional notices from the City of Eureka with more detailed timing and lane-by-lane impacts as the projects advance. Plan alternate routes during weekday daytime hours if possible, and allow extra time for deliveries, appointments and commute activities while crews are working in the McCullens, F and Fairfield corridors.
