Eureka Files Eviction Against Humboldt Bay Social Club Over Unpaid Rent
Eureka filed eviction papers against the Humboldt Bay Social Club over an alleged 18 months of unpaid rent, putting the Samoa Peninsula venue at risk.

Eighteen months of alleged unpaid rent prompted the City of Eureka to file eviction paperwork against the Humboldt Bay Social Club, putting the Samoa Peninsula's boutique hotel, oyster bar, and event venue at risk of a change in control.
The city filed the eviction on March 27 against the operators of the property at 865 and 900 New Navy Base Road, where Jon O'Connor and Amy Cirincione O'Connor have run the Social Club since 2017 on the former airstrip known as Samoa Field. Eureka holds the lease as landlord and says it is pursuing legal remedies to retake possession after roughly a year and a half without payment. The filing marks a significant escalation in what local coverage has framed as a long-running tension between the city and its tenant over a visible waterfront property.
The stakes reach beyond the lease itself. The Social Club is one of the few hospitality anchors on the Samoa Peninsula, drawing tourists to its lodging rooms, local diners to its oyster bar, and community groups to its outdoor event spaces. A forced exit by the current operators could disrupt active bookings and event contracts, eliminate seasonal jobs tied to the property, and leave a gap in the peninsula's limited hospitality inventory that would be difficult to fill quickly.
The outcome will also shape Samoa Field's long-term future. The city has watched the property closely as part of its broader management of aging waterfront assets, and an extended vacancy or contested proceeding could delay any redevelopment planning already underway.

How quickly that plays out depends on whether O'Connor mounts a legal challenge. An uncontested eviction could transfer possession to the city within weeks; a contested case would extend the uncertainty into the summer tourist season, with direct consequences for anyone who has booked the property for weddings, corporate gatherings, or overnight stays.
The Social Club, described in earlier local coverage as "rustic-chic" for its converted-airstrip setting, built a loyal following on Humboldt Bay in the nine years since opening. Court filings tracking the eviction are available through Humboldt County records.
