Humboldt County coroner releases findings in James Jaworski death case

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has completed its death investigation into James Jaworski, a 77-year-old retired physician whose wife reported him missing the morning of July 8, 2026. The county said the finding came after an extensive search effort, but the public notice did not spell out a cause or manner of death.

The update was released through the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office account and directed readers to county government resources for more information. Those county materials describe the Coroner’s Office as the agency that investigates reportable deaths, safeguards the property of the deceased, notifies and counsels next of kin, conducts inquests, administers estates and provides burial for indigent persons.

County guidance also says autopsy reports can take several months to complete. Unless a report is restricted by policy, the county says a copy may be released after completion through its coroner reports process.

The Jaworski case arrives against a backdrop of long-running capacity concerns inside the county’s death-investigation system.
