McKinleyville Shooting Investigation Leads to Adult, Juvenile Arrests
A felon and a 17-year-old already on juvenile probation were both found connected to a firearm after neighbors reported gunshots near Eucalyptus Road in McKinleyville.

Shots fired in a McKinleyville residential neighborhood just before 9 a.m. on April 2 ended with two arrests: a felon booked on felony weapons charges and a 17-year-old already on active juvenile probation taken into custody outside the very address where witnesses said a man had been firing a gun.
Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 8:56 a.m. to the area of Boiler Avenue and Eucalyptus Road after multiple witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Those witnesses directed deputies to the 800 block of Eucalyptus Road and described a male suspect. Deputies found a juvenile matching that description standing outside the residence.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Division assisted in obtaining a search warrant for the home, a step that escalated what began as a shots-fired call into a full criminal investigation targeting both occupants.
The adult suspect was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on two felony counts: Penal Code 29800(a)(1), being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Penal Code 30305(a)(1), a prohibited person in possession of ammunition. The 17-year-old was transported to Humboldt County Juvenile Hall and booked on suspicion of Penal Code 29820(b), possession of a firearm by a ward of the court. His standing on active juvenile probation means the case will almost certainly trigger additional juvenile court proceedings alongside the new charges.
The incident unfolded during the morning hours when residents and students are typically moving through McKinleyville's neighborhood streets. HCSO has not publicly confirmed whether a firearm was recovered from the property following the search warrant execution, and the agency has not addressed what, if any, additional patrols or prevention measures it plans for the Eucalyptus Road corridor going forward. Both of those questions bear directly on what neighbors can expect in the days ahead.
