Motorcyclist Arrested After High Speed Flight Through Residential Eureka Streets

On the night of December 3, Eureka police observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on H Street and attempted a traffic stop near H and Harris Streets at approximately 10:25 p.m. Officers say the motorcycle was operating without required lighting equipment and being driven recklessly. The rider initially slowed but then fled, accelerating to approximately 85 to 90 miles per hour in a posted 30 mile per hour residential zone.

Because of the rider’s excessive speed and the growing distance, the officer discontinued an active pursuit while continuing to monitor the direction of travel for the safety of the community. A short time later officers located the motorcycle on Lexi Lane. The rider complied with commands and was taken into custody without further incident. The motorcycle was impounded and the rider, 22 year old Logan Juchtzer of Eureka, was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony evading VC2800.2(a).

The incident occurred in a residential area where serious collisions have previously been reported, drawing attention to persistent local concerns about speed and public safety on neighborhood streets.
