Iron Family Documentary Now Available for Rent or Purchase on Major Digital Platforms

Iron Family," the documentary built around Iron River playwright Jazmine Faries, became available for rent or purchase on Amazon, Apple TV, Google TV and YouTube as of March 16, timed just days before World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.

The film follows Faries, a 32-year-old woman with Down Syndrome whose passions include soap operas, Barbie dolls and Matthew McConaughey. For the past five summers, her family staged her original plays for small audiences in Iron River, and the documentary grew out of that homegrown theatrical tradition. The film captures Faries's creative process as she writes, rehearses and prepares for performance, while also revealing her push for independence, her longing for romance and the profound way one person's imagination can uplift an entire community.

The film also stars and was co-produced by her brother Chad Faries, now a professor at Savannah State University. The project is no newcomer to recognition: it won the 2022 Slamdance Audience Award, a festival known for spotlighting independent cinema outside the mainstream circuit.

The March 16 release date carries deliberate symbolic weight. World Down Syndrome Day is observed every March 21 to raise awareness of the condition and promote inclusion. The date itself reflects the genetic cause: Down Syndrome results from an extra copy of chromosome 21, a condition also known as trisomy 21.
