Island County Democrats Release February Events, Urge Local Volunteer Participation
SOS Whidbey meets from 5 to 7 pm today at the Freeland Library; Island County Democrats urged volunteers and listed town halls and a March 6 virtual Rapid Response training.

SOS Whidbey meets from 5 to 7 pm today at the Freeland Library for a “Take Action to Stop ICE” session, the Island County Democrats said in a Feb. 19 events roundup. The post described the Freeland meeting as “what SOS Whidbey hopes will become monthly opportunities to take concrete nonviolent, noncooperation actions as a group to pressure corporations and their leaders to stop cooperating with federal immigration efforts.”
The Island County Democrats’ Feb. 19 newsletter also highlighted a March 6 virtual Rapid Response Team training coordinated by SOS Whidbey. VoterInterests’ event listing gives the session as 6 to 8 pm and states that “SOS Whidbey coordinates a Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN)-trained Rapid Response team for on the Island but needs more members, especially in Central and North Whidbey. Participants will learn how to confirm and document ICE activity.” The VoterInterests posting included a “Register here” placeholder, though no registration URL was supplied in the excerpts.

Party organizers included two town halls with State Rep. Clyde Shavers on Thursday, Feb. 26: a 4 to 5 pm session at Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge Hall, 63 Jacobs Road, Coupeville, followed by a 6 to 7 pm session at Maple Hall, 104 Commercial St., La Conner. The Feb. 21 10th District Community Town Hall appears on the Island County Democrats events list but the newsletter excerpt did not provide a time or location for that meeting.
The aggregated listings appended by VoterInterests also called out recurring local actions: Stanwood and Camano Indivisible hold sign-waving every Saturday from noon to 1:30 pm across from CVS and Viking Village at 88th Ave NW and Hwy 532, and Indivisible Whidbey maintains informal local socials for community connection, though times and locations for those socials were not provided in the excerpts.
The Island County Democrats framed the events within the party’s formal role in county politics. “The Island County Democrats is the official branch of the Democratic Party in Island County, Washington, as established by Washington State Statute (see RCW 29A.80 et seq.),” the newsletter states, adding that “We operate a Political Action Committee (ICDPAC) in accordance with the state’s Public Disclosure Commission (PDC), and we provide financial support to candidates and ballot initiatives.” The post listed functions such as voter registration, Get-out-the-Vote drives, caucuses, delegate selection and drafting resolutions.
For event questions or to contact the local party, the newsletter gives the chair at icdchair@gmail.com, the newsletter editor at islandcountydems@gmail.com, a Bluesky handle @icdems.bsky.social, and U.S. mail at P.O. Box 775, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. The editors closed their Feb. 19 message with a broad mobilization note: “Chaos in the other Washington. ICE out of control. Skyrocketing healthcare costs. Chaotic food prices. People hurting. Had enough? In coming months, we will be broadening our outreach efforts to focus on ways YOU can get involved and actions YOU can take locally to protect democracy and basic human rights here at home. – The Editors”
