Island County Posts January Meeting Schedule, Public Events, Trainings
Island County’s official calendar lists a full slate of January 2026 public meetings and trainings, including recent Board of County Commissioners sessions, Planning Commission hearings, public health convenings, and upcoming emergency management courses. The schedule matters for residents because these meetings set local policy on land use, public health, and emergency preparedness and include agenda documents and links for public review.

Island County's official calendar lists the county's January 2026 meetings and public events, providing times, locations and links to agendas and supporting documents. Several governing bodies met in the first week of the month and additional sessions are scheduled throughout January, giving residents multiple opportunities to follow decisions that shape county policy.
The Board of County Commissioners held a regular meeting on Jan. 6 and a work session on Jan. 7. Additional commissioners meetings are scheduled for Jan. 13, Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, all listed with times and locations on the county calendar. Those meetings take place in the Island County Commissioners Hearing Room and other county facilities, where commissioners consider budget items, administrative policies and requests that affect county operations.
The Planning Commission convened on Jan. 7 and has further meetings set for Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. Planning Commission agendas typically cover land use, zoning amendments and permit applications, matters that directly affect property owners, developers and neighborhoods across Island County. Residents concerned about growth, shoreline rules or development permits should review the posted agendas so they can track or participate in deliberations.
Public health bodies met earlier in the week and will meet again later in the month. The Community Health Advisory Board held a meeting on Jan. 8 in Coupeville. The Island County Board of Health has a session scheduled for Jan. 20. These meetings address local public health priorities, programs and partnerships that influence services ranging from disease prevention to community-based health initiatives.
The Department of Emergency Management is offering a CERT Train-the-Trainer course Jan. 30 through Feb. 1, alongside training activities and surveys listed on the calendar. That course is intended to build local volunteer capacity for disaster response and to expand community-level preparedness. Emergency management events are especially relevant to residents in island and rural areas where response times and mutual aid networks shape outcomes during storms and other incidents.
The county calendar includes links to agenda documents and additional details for each listed event. Residents who wish to attend, comment or follow agenda items should consult the calendar for exact times, room locations and any remote participation instructions. Tracking these meetings allows citizens to monitor local decisions on land use, public health and emergency preparedness and to hold elected and appointed officials accountable.
