Oak Harbor Police Seek Armed, Dangerous Domestic Violence Suspect James Mathis
Oak Harbor police are searching for James Mathis, 39, who fled officers on S.W. Judson Drive after an alleged domestic assault and is believed to be carrying a firearm.

James L. Mathis, 39, fled S.W. Judson Drive as Oak Harbor officers moved in to arrest him following an alleged assault against his wife, leaving police to label him "armed and dangerous" and warn the public he is believed to be carrying a firearm.
The Oak Harbor Police Department issued a public advisory urging anyone who spots Mathis to avoid contact and call police immediately. Mathis is wanted on multiple violent felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the alleged assault at his residence in the 600 block of S.W. Judson Drive.
Officers had responded to a domestic-violence call at the Judson Drive home when Mathis escaped and fled as they attempted to take him into custody. The department's advisory did not specify what type of firearm Mathis is believed to have, nor did it provide a physical description or last-known location beyond the Judson Drive address.
Oak Harbor Police Chief Tony Slowik called for public assistance as the search continued. "The safety of our community is our top priority," Slowik said. "We thank the residents of Oak Harbor and Island County for their continued support and vigilance as we work to bring this individual into custody safely."

The department emphasized that residents across Oak Harbor and adjacent parts of Island County should not attempt to engage or confront Mathis under any circumstances. All tips and information on his whereabouts should go directly to the Oak Harbor Police Department.
Specific charges beyond the description of "multiple violent felony and misdemeanor charges," details about any injuries, and information about the victim's condition were not included in the department's advisory. The investigation remained active as of March 30.
