Anahola Residents Face Low Water Pressure Amid Emergency Mainline Repair
A burst 12-inch mainline near the Anahola Bridge knocked out water on Hui Road; pressure was restored March 25 after DHHL supplied emergency backup service.

Households on Hui Road and Kalalea View Drive lost reliable water pressure last week after a leak burst through a 12-inch mainline near the Anahola Bridge, triggering an emergency shutdown by the Kauaʻi Department of Water on Friday, March 20.
Reports of no water service on Hui Road first surfaced at 3:10 p.m. that Friday, prompting DOW crews to rush to investigate. The agency quickly activated an emergency interconnect with the Department of Hawaiian Homelands to supply temporary service to affected customers while it assessed the damage and sourced replacement parts.
The shutdown left residents on both streets contending with intermittently low pressure for several days. "The previous shutdown was necessary after a leak was discovered on the 12-inch mainline," DOW stated in a March 23 notice. The department added that repair parts were expected to arrive later that week and that "crews will complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible" once they did.
Throughout the disruption, DOW asked affected customers to conserve water and avoid peak usage hours to manage pressure on the temporary interconnect supply. The agency said it "appreciates the community's patience and understanding while repairs are completed."
Pressure was fully restored by March 25, when DOW posted a brief update to its official site: "This has been resolved, and water pressure has been restored. Mahalo."
The incident marked the second water emergency in Anahola within two weeks. On March 11, a landslide sent a boulder down Aliomanu Road and directly into a mainline, forcing an emergency shutdown at 12:30 p.m. that knocked out service to Kukuna Road and all branching roads, which possibly included Kalalea View Drive. Water was restored the same day by 3:15 p.m., though a partial one-lane alternating traffic closure remained in place on Aliomanu Road while crews completed road repairs. DOW has not explicitly confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
