Hanalei Water Main Work on Weke Road Runs Through April 30
Water main work now underway on Weke Road in Hanalei forces flaggers and lane restrictions between 'Anae and Mālolo roads weekdays through April 30.

Water main construction is now active on Weke Road in Hanalei, with flaggers and lane restrictions in place between 'Anae Road and Mālolo Road through April 30.
The County of Kauai's Department of Water launched the project April 6 as part of the broader Hanalei Water Line Improvements. Contractor Koga Engineering & Construction Inc. is carrying out the fieldwork, with crews on-site weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
The work involves installing and upgrading the water main to bring Hanalei's distribution infrastructure up to current system standards and meet fire flow requirements, a safety threshold that governs how much pressurized water the system can deliver in an emergency. The project is part of the county's wider effort to modernize aging water infrastructure across Kauai.
Weke Road's narrow alignment through central Hanalei compounds the daily impact. The road handles a heavy mix of residents, school commuters, and North Shore visitors, and the constrained corridor between 'Anae and Mālolo leaves little room to absorb a construction zone without slowing traffic. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to obey flaggers, follow posted detour signage, and allow extra time during active construction windows.
The DOW has published a map showing the precise work corridor for residents planning alternate travel times or routes.
Those with questions can contact contractor representative Garrett Ichimura of Koga Engineering & Construction Inc. at 808-864-3148, or DOW's Scott Suga at 808-245-5411.
With work scheduled through April 30, Hanalei drivers face roughly three more weeks of construction-zone conditions on one of the North Shore's most-traveled local roads.
