Kapaa’s Avah McRoberts Shines at Kauai Interscholastic Federation Wrestling Meet
Kapaa's Avah McRoberts pinned three opponents to go 3-0 and swept girls honors at the KIF meet, a boost for Kapaa's small girls roster and local wrestling scene.

Avah McRoberts dominated the girls mat at the Kauai Interscholastic Federation wrestling matches at Wilcox Gymnasium at Island School, pinning three opponents to finish 3-0 and collect the event's top girls honors. McRoberts, one of only two girls wrestling for Kapaa, was recognized with Most Wins, Most Victories and Most Pins after her string of pinfall finishes.
The KIF meet spanned Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and drew competitors from Kauai County schools. McRoberts’ performance stood out in a girls field where Kapaa entered just two competitors. A photo from the meet shows Kapaa’s Avah McRoberts, in pink, working toward a submission from Waimea’s Zeeva Hart during action at Wilcox Gymnasium.
Boys results at the meet produced a mixed set of team outcomes. Kauai High School posted the strongest showing with 30 wins and 18 losses for a 63 percent winning rate. Waimea High School recorded 25 wins and 30 losses for a 45 percent showing. Kapaa High School boys logged eight wins and 14 losses for a 36 percent showing. Island School, represented by a single wrestler, Kaonohi Armitage, finished 2-2 for a 50 percent mark; Armitage was also among those who earned Most Matches honors.
Individual boys honors were widely distributed. Armitage, Kapaa’s Dustin Jerves, Ryan Ikaika Vicoy, and Waimea’s Ashten Gonzales, Jude Bolyard, and Ehzno Richardson each earned Most Matches honor at four matches apiece. Kauai’s Wyatt Ballard, Joaquin Santiago and Preston Butcher, Kapaa’s Jerves, and Waimea’s Kaileo Labanon, Richardso, and Jai Domingues were announced the Most Victories at three wins each. Kauai’s Ballard was announced as having the Most Tech Falls at two.

For Kapaa and Kauai County wrestling programs, McRoberts’ sweep of individual girls honors highlights both the promise and fragility of the girls side. With only two girls competing for Kapaa, a single standout performance can lift the program’s visibility and encourage more participation. On the boys side, Kauai High’s 63 percent win rate signals depth that could matter as teams prepare for the remainder of the season, while Waimea and Kapaa will be looking to convert close matches into more wins.
Next steps for local fans and programs include tracking meet-by-meet developments and roster changes as the season progresses. Verifying full meet sheets and confirming name spellings and affiliations will clarify statistical leaders and help coaches and athletes plan for upcoming KIF competition.
