Kauai Girls Golf Team Edges Kapaa in Windy KIF Match at Wailua

Kauai High School's girls golf team opened the 2026 Kauai Interscholastic Federation season with a nine-stroke margin over Kapaa, carding a team 349 to Kapaa's 358 at Wailua Golf Course, with Waimea finishing third at 395.

Sydney Ito paced the Kauai girls with a round of 93, the low score among the three teams' individual competitors. Ito was joined on the Kauai roster by Madie Perreira and Aliyah Corpuz, with the squad coached by Kimberlie Miyamoto. The windy conditions at Wailua made scoring a challenge across the board, and Kauai's nine-stroke cushion over Kapaa represented a hard-earned result on a course that plays differently when trade winds kick up.

On the boys side, Kauai also topped the team competition. Just five strokes separated the top five boys individualists in what shaped up as the tighter of the two competitions on opening day. The Kauai boys roster included Caleb Ito, Shane Murphy, Renyn Lee, and Caleb Taba, coached by Paul Ito, Reynold Lee, and Steve Murphy.

The round marked the official launch of KIF's 2026 golf season at Wailua, a municipal course that has long served as the primary venue for interscholastic competition on the island. With both the boys and girls teams claiming team victories in the same afternoon, Kauai High School left Wailua with a strong early statement heading into the rest of the KIF schedule.
