Kauai High baseball earns Pitcher of the Year, Coach of the Year honors

Kauai High School’s baseball program turned a championship run into league-wide validation, with the Red Raiders claiming both Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year on the Kauai Interscholastic Federation’s 2026 baseball all-star list. The recognition came after Kauai High finished the season as Central Pacific Bank KIF champions, a sign that the program’s success extended beyond one strong game and into the full shape of the season.

The KIF released its all-star selections on Wednesday, June 11, 2026, and Kauai High stood out at the top of the list. The honors point to a program that paired dependable pitching with steady leadership, two qualities that often separate a good island team from a title team. In a league where every school knows each other well and where roster depth can swing a season, those awards carried extra weight for the Red Raiders.

Kauai High earned the KIF crown by holding off Waimea, 8-4, in the championship playoff game on April 29 at Vidinha Stadium in Līhue. That result gave the Red Raiders the county’s top league trophy and set up their next test in the 2026 Wally Yonamine Foundation HHSAA Division II baseball championship.

The state tournament showed the Red Raiders could compete beyond the county level as well. MaxPreps’ game log shows Kauai High fell to Honokaa, 5-2, on May 8, then came back to beat Hawaii Prep, 5-2, on May 9. Even with the split, the trip reinforced the value of the KIF season for exposure, giving Kauai High players another stage on which to be seen by college programs and outside evaluators.

The league’s history adds context to the recognition. The Kauai Interscholastic Federation was first organized in 1937 with Kauai High and Waimea High School, then expanded when Kapaa High opened in 1946 and joined the circuit. Today, the KIF includes eight member schools and 29 varsity sports plus eight JV sports, making its all-star list one of the clearest year-end measures of who set the pace on the island.

Kauai High’s honors also fit a recent pattern of championship teams collecting the biggest individual awards. In 2024, Joshua Rego of Kauai High was named Player of the Year, while Kapaa coach Bryan Aiwohi earned Coach of the Year. In 2025, Kapaa won the KIF baseball championship after a marathon 19-inning game against Kauai High. This year, the Red Raiders answered back, converting a title season into the league’s top pitching and coaching recognition.
