Kauai High School Tennis Season Opens With Early League Play
Kapaa's Warriors swept Island School 5-0 while juggling a track meet, softball practice, and spring prom on the same busy campus day.

Kapa'a and Kaua'i High School opened the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation tennis season with convincing wins last Wednesday, with the Warriors sweeping Island School on a campus stretched thin by competing spring activities and the Red Raiders taking both series against Waimea despite playing away from their opponent's home courts.
At Kapa'a High School, the tennis matches shared the campus with the first KIF qualifying track meet and Warriors softball practice, all while the tennis teams coordinated their schedule around spring prom. The girls were given the option of first play, and they delivered. Ocean Amador opened the day with a hard-fought 7-6 (9/7), 6-4 victory over Island School's Lilah Hamid on First Singles, and Wai Kitamura followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nola Bown on Second Singles. The Warrior boys then took over on the doubles courts. Jason Muramaru and Luka Lasky-Martin defeated Ikaika Havas and Bodhi Czarski 7-5, 6-1 at First Doubles, Curren Pope and Keola Maroney dominated Logan Reynolds and Orion Magaoay 6-0, 6-2 at Second Doubles, and Matthew Asuncion and Kainoa Danner closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Max Fazio and Sebastian Sanchez at Third Doubles. Both the Kapaa boys and girls finished 5-0 over the Voyagers.
Across the island, Waimea technically served as host against Kaua'i High School, but the Menehune had to relocate their matches to the Hanapepe tennis courts because Cook Field and the Waimea High School tennis courts are closed for improvement projects, including resurfacing. The change of venue did nothing to slow the Red Raiders. The Kaua'i High girls shut out Waimea 5-0, with Laney Carvalho beating Emma Giurao 6-1, 6-1 at Girls No. 1 Singles and Lily Corpuz delivering a dominant 6-0, 6-0 result over Mariana Lee at Girls No. 2 Singles. The Kaua'i High boys edged Waimea 3-2 to complete the series sweep.

The next round of KIF Tennis is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, when Waimea visits Kapa'a at the on-campus courts and Kaua'i High School hosts Island School at its new facility on campus.
