Kauai High senior Aileah Vilatora breaks three KIF track records
Aileah Vilatora broke three KIF records at Vidinha Stadium, giving Kauai High a rare sprinting benchmark and setting up the next state-level showdown.

Kauai High senior Aileah Vilatora turned the Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation track and field championships into a benchmark performance at Vidinha Stadium, breaking three KIF records and putting island sprinting on notice. Her 100-meter time of 12.43 seconds erased a mark that had stood since 2008, when Tiffany Ikeda-Simao ran 12.55, and Athletic.net shows Vilatora set that 12.43 at KIF Qualifying Meet No. 6 on April 25.
Vilatora also set new KIF standards in the 200 meters and 400 meters, a rare sweep that made her the standout individual performer of the meet. For Kauai track and field, the significance went beyond one day’s results. A senior from Kauai High who already had state credentials in the 400 meters, Vilatora showed she could dominate across the sprint ladder and reset expectations for what an island athlete can do at the top level.

That achievement landed in difficult conditions. The County of Kauai kept Vidinha Stadium closed to the general public while construction continued, and KIF’s access was limited to scheduled meets with no spectators and only athletes and authorized personnel allowed inside the site. Island School Athletic Director Jerry Jona said field events were shifted to the Voyager campus on Thursday, while the running events and limited field finals were held Saturday at Vidinha Stadium. Periodic rain and wind added another layer of difficulty for every competitor on the track.

Even with the disruptions, the team races produced clear winners. Kapaa High School boys took the boys title with 267 points, and Island School girls won the girls crown with 223. Kapaa girls finished with 177 points, Kauai High placed third in the girls standings with 48, and Waimea girls closed out the leaderboard with 22.
The meet also had its share of memorable island details. Kapaa senior Colten Nagahisa won the boys 3,000 meters in 11:16.16 while wearing the same swimming cap he had used since the start of his high school running career. Former Kauai High track and running coach Richard Matsumoto said Vilatora is also a strong cross-country runner and girls soccer midfielder, a reminder that her range stretches far beyond the track. She was named KIF girls soccer Player of the Year in March and had already won state gold in the 400 meters in 2025, then finished seventh in the 200 at the HHSAA championships.
With the KIF season closing and state competition ahead, Vilatora’s three-record day became more than a headline. It was a community marker, one that showed how much one athlete can change the conversation for Kauai High, for KIF, and for the island’s standard of excellence.
