Līhuʻe Townhouse Water Shutdown Planned March 18 for Valve, Pipe Replacement
Līhuʻe Townhouse on Rice Street lost water service March 18 while DOW crews swapped out a 3-inch gate valve, pipe, and meter during Fix a Leak Week.

Residents at the Līhuʻe Townhouse on Rice Street went without running water for roughly five and a half hours Wednesday as Department of Water crews replaced aging infrastructure at the 4156 Rice Street property.
The Kauaʻi Department of Water posted notice on March 17 that the shutdown would run from 9 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. on March 18, weather permitting. Crews used the window to replace a 3-inch gate valve, existing pipe, and a 3-inch meter. The Līhuʻe Townhouse maintenance department was notified directly by DOW crews ahead of the work.
DOW advised affected customers to store enough water to meet their needs until service was restored, notify family, friends, tenants, and neighbors, ensure water heaters did not empty, especially if faulty, and avoid using appliances that require water during the outage.
The shutdown fell during Fix a Leak Week, a campaign run through a partnership between the Kauaʻi Department of Water and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program. Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami reinforced that message earlier in the week, issuing a proclamation encouraging residents to use water responsibly and regularly check and promptly repair any leaks in their water fixtures.
Residents seeking updates on future service interruptions can monitor the Department of Water website for current notices.
