Papalina Road Lane Closures Set for Kalāheo Starting March 23
Papalina Road between Kaumuali'i Highway and Waha Road in Kalāheo is now under lane closures for striping work running through April 3.

Papalina Road in Kalāheo entered its first day of planned lane closures Sunday as the Kaua'i Department of Public Works and contractor Maui Kupono Builders began a two-week striping project along the stretch between Kaumuali'i Highway and Waha Road.
The closures are scheduled on weekdays through April 3, with work running from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting. No parking will be allowed in the active work zones during those hours, and flaggers will be stationed at the work zone to direct traffic through the affected corridor.
The Department of Public Works described the scope plainly: "The closures are necessary for road striping work." Drivers using Papalina Road during the closure window should allow extra travel time, as the County has asked the public to "make the appropriate arrangements to accommodate the necessary road closures."
This stretch of Papalina Road has seen previous disruption. In September, the Department of Public Works contracted with Cushnie Construction Company, Inc. to complete pipe replacement and road repairs near the Kaumuali'i Highway junction. That project ran from Sept. 8 through Sept. 12, with one-lane alternating traffic in effect and a detour established for motorists needing to turn eastbound onto Kaumuali'i Highway via Pu'u Road and Hokua Street. The current striping work involves a different contractor and scope, with flaggers managing traffic flow rather than a formal detour route.
