Poʻipū water service shutdown overnight Feb. 24, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Portions of Poʻipū Road will be without water from 9 p.m. Feb. 24 to 5 a.m. Feb. 25, weather permitting, while Goodfellow Bros. performs work on the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project.

The Kauaʻi Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled an overnight water service shutdown on a portion of Poʻipū Road to accommodate contractor work on the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project. The department posted that, “The Department of Water (DOW) announces an overnight water service shutdown on a portion of Poʻipū Road, from 9 p.m. on Feb. 24 to 5 a.m. on Feb. 25, weather permitting.”
County notices and the DOW planned-outages page say the shutdown is necessary “to allow contractor Goodfellow Bros. LLC to perform work on the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project for the County of Kauaʻi.” Goodfellow contacts listed in County distribution messages include Christian Redongo at 808-268-1966 and, in a separate notice reported by Kauai Now, Ryan Mountcastle at 808-658-1151. The Department of Water contact listed for media and questions is Scott Suga at 808-245-5411.
Notices conflict on the exact terminal address and adjacent streets affected. A GovDelivery county notice lists the affected stretch as Poʻipū Road from the intersection of Waikomo Road to 3101 Poʻipū Road and references a map labeled, “Map showing the affected area. Map subject to change.” Kauai Now’s Feb. 24-25 notice expands the range to Poʻipū Road from Waikomo Road to 3123 Poʻipū Road and explicitly names Pāʻānau Road and Hīkina Road as also without water. Reporters and customers are advised to confirm the precise boundaries with the DOW before the shutdown.
The DOW and its Kauaiwater outage page emphasize the schedule is conditional. Notices repeat that the shutdown is “weather permitting.” The department’s planned-outages page also carries live updates and has previously posted cancellations and restorations; a separate Lāwaʻi Road entry on that page shows the department can cancel a scheduled shutdown after repairs are completed.
A separate, emergency incident on Lāwaʻi Road was reported earlier in the week and appears unrelated to the Feb. 24 scheduled Poʻipū shutdown. Hoodline reported crews scheduling an emergency overnight shutdown starting at 9:30 p.m. to repair a main-line leak affecting the ocean side of Lāwaʻi Road between The Beach House Restaurant and Hoona Road and estimated the outage could last roughly three to four hours. Hoodline noted the county said nearby businesses including The Beach House and Kuhio Shores were notified and warned drivers to expect tight conditions and possible lane shifts near the work zone.
For leak reporting and after-hours service, the DOW lists 808-245-5444 during business hours and, after hours, calls routed through police dispatch at 808-241-1711 to reach on-call crews. The DOW’s Kauaiwater planned-outages page and the county GovDelivery notice include the map and updates; residents and businesses along Poʻipū Road who need confirmation of addresses, timing, or post-work water-quality guidance should contact Scott Suga at 808-245-5411 or the Goodfellow contacts provided above ahead of the overnight work.
