Drivers in Poʻipū should plan for daytime slowdowns on Ala Kinoiki as single-lane closures begin April 22 and continue through May 1, with work set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Flaggers will be stationed in the work zone to direct traffic, and the County of Kauaʻi is urging motorists to use alternate routes when possible and leave extra time to reach their destinations.

The County of Kauaʻi Department of Public Works said the closures are needed for public safety and to allow The Cutting-Edge Land Clearing Solutions to complete tree-trimming work along the roadway. The notice points to a practical hazard as well as a traffic issue: crews will be working directly along a corridor that carries residents, visitors and service vehicles through one of South Kauaʻi’s busiest areas.

That makes the disruption more than a routine maintenance note. Ala Kinoiki is part of the daily path for people moving between Kōloa and the Poʻipū resort area, and even a temporary lane restriction can affect commutes, deliveries, customer access and response times for nearby businesses. In a district where hotel arrivals, restaurant traffic and beach access already shape the pace of the day, a work zone can quickly ripple beyond the roadway itself.

The April 22 to May 1 project follows a string of similar notices on the same corridor. The county previously announced tree-trimming lane closures on Ala Kinoiki for April 2, and again for Feb. 11 to 13, when it said no parking would be allowed in the work zones. The repeated daytime restrictions show how often the county is returning to the road for short maintenance windows tied to safety and clearance needs.

The latest work also sits within the larger Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project, which the county blessed in Kōloa on Oct. 14, 2025. County project materials describe Poʻipū Road as an approximately 3.3-mile corridor serving both local and regional needs, with planned improvements including a roundabout at Poʻipū Road, Ala Kinoiki and Peʻe Road. The project grew out of a community visioning process in 2013 and was later folded into the South Kauaʻi Community Plan in 2015.

The county says the full project is scheduled for completion by December 2027, but the near-term reality for drivers is simpler: expect delays on Ala Kinoiki, watch for flaggers, and give crews room to work while they clear trees and keep the corridor safe.
