Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company Inc., under contract with the Department of Water, will perform utility work and excavation along Kawaihau Road, from the intersection of Kaapuni Road to Kapahi Road, beginning December 1 and continuing through December 31, 2025. Work will take place on weekdays only, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and motorists should expect one lane closures on portions of the route during those hours. Parking will not be allowed in the designated work zones.

The construction is part of the Kapaʻa Homesteads Tank Project, which will add two 0.5 million gallon storage tanks and required storm drain improvements. The project also includes installation of about 1,700 linear feet of water lines in 16 inch and 12 inch diameters along with associated appurtenances. The upgrades are intended to bolster water storage capacity and reduce vulnerability to storm related flooding, improving service reliability for the Kapaʻa Homesteads community and neighboring areas.

Drivers are asked to obey all posted signs, traffic controls, and flaggers. Access to properties will be maintained during work hours, though residents and businesses should plan for delays and limited parking near the work zones. The Department of Water and the contractor advise motorists to use caution when driving over steel plates that may be placed on the roadway and to allow extra travel time for daily commutes and deliveries.
