Vidinha Stadium Remains Closed During Renovations, Reopening Expected Fall 2026
Vidinha Stadium's reopening slipped past its December 2025 target; the county now expects fall 2026 as a $12.2M renovation continues.

Vidinha Stadium in Lihue remains an active construction site more than a year into a $12.2 million improvement project, with the county now anticipating a fall 2026 reopening after an earlier December 2025 completion target passed without the facility reopening.
The Kaua'i Department of Parks and Recreation issued a reminder March 16, 2026 that Phase 1 work is still underway and the stadium remains closed to the general public. When the county first announced the closure in April 2025, DPR Director Pat Porter said Phase 1 was projected to wrap by December 2025, with Phase 2 construction continuing after that. The updated county timeline does not state a cause for the shift but places full reopening in fall 2026.
"Due to ongoing construction and safety concerns, Vidinha Stadium is closed to the public," Porter said when the closure was announced. "Park users are welcome to use the soccer and baseball fields for recreational activities during this closure."
Phase 1 covers the demolition and removal of the existing field, track, track implements, and scoreboard, along with installation of a synthetic turf field, synthetic track, new track implements, and a video board. The project's contractor is Co-Ha Builders Inc., doing business as Applied Surfacing Technology, with Fukunaga & Associates Inc. serving as the engineering firm.
Despite the closure, the county has carved out one narrow exception: the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation has been approved to use the track strictly for scheduled meets. Access during those events is limited to athletes and authorized personnel only. Spectators are not permitted at Saturday track meets, and the public may not gather outside the fence to watch. The bleachers are undergoing renovation and remain inaccessible until further notice.
Signs installed around the stadium since March 2025 mark the boundaries of the active work zone. The county has said updates on project progress and stadium access will be issued in future news releases.
