Carr wins two races at District 1 All-Star Meet in Post Falls
Annabelle Carr swept the 800 and 1,600 in Post Falls, adding to a season that has already taken her to Oregon Relays and national-level competition.

Annabelle Carr kept adding to one of the area’s most decorated distance résumés Thursday, winning the girls 1,600-meter run and the 800 at the District 1 All-Star Meet at Post Falls High while anchoring Coeur d’Alene Charter’s winning 4x400 relay.
Carr won the mile in 5:09.89, holding off teammate Helen Oyler in a race that underscored the depth of Charter’s distance group. She came back to take the 800 in 55.92 seconds, then closed the meet by running the anchor leg on Charter’s victorious 4x400 relay. The all-star format brought together the top 16 individuals and eight relays, with no team scores kept, turning the meet into a concentrated look at the best track talent in District 1.
For Kootenai County readers, Carr’s performance mattered because it came from an athlete already competing well beyond the local circuit. Carr signed with Oregon in November and has spent the season balancing high-end travel meets with championship races closer to home. She ran 4:54.86 in the mile and 2:10.30 in the 800 at the Oregon Relays on April 4, then helped Charter’s 4x400 relay clock 4:00.16 at the Pasco Invitational, where the team finished second out of 23 schools.
Her path also showed how much the rules around elite prep competition can shape a season. Carr wanted to run the Nike Twilight Meet at Jesuit High in Portland, but her petition was denied by the Idaho High School Activities Association because of meet limits. Idaho track rules allow an athlete to compete in no more than two track meets per week, and the state’s special-events rule lets exceptional student-athletes take part in up to three invite-only or earned special events only if approval is secured at least 30 days in advance.
That backdrop made her Post Falls showing more than a routine win. Carr has already established herself as a state contender in both the 800 and 1,600, and her ability to win the two races on the same day, then carry Charter home in the relay, pointed to a ceiling that still looks higher as the biggest meets of the season approach. Oyler, who signed in April to compete in track and cross country at Spokane Colleges, provided the kind of in-house challenge that has helped make Charter’s distance program one of the most productive in the region. Carr’s latest sweep only sharpened the case that her best races may still be ahead.
