Coeur d'Alene Man Faces Plea Hearing on Four Sexual Abuse Felonies
Scott Dustin Smith, 49, faces four felony sex abuse charges tied to offenses spanning 2013–2017, with a plea hearing set for March 18.
Scott Dustin Smith, 49, of Coeur d'Alene is scheduled to enter a plea on four felony sexual abuse charges during an arraignment docket set for March 18, with alleged offenses stretching back more than a decade.
Smith faces one count of lewd conduct with a child under 16 after allegedly committing a lewd and lascivious act, along with three counts of rape with the victim being between 16 and 17 years old. Prosecutors allege the offenses occurred between 2013 and 2017.
The case developed in stages over the fall and winter. The lewd conduct charge was filed November 6, 2025, and Smith was arrested in Kootenai County six days later on November 12. Prosecuting attorney Andrakay Pluid then added the three rape counts on December 11, 2025, expanding the case significantly. Smith posted a $150,000 bond two days after that, on December 13.
The March 18 arraignment is Smith's second scheduled opportunity to enter a plea. A prior arraignment set for February 4 was delayed for unspecified reasons. At the upcoming hearing, Smith may enter a guilty or not-guilty plea; if he enters a not-guilty plea, the court will schedule a trial date.
