North Spokane Street in Post Falls will close to thru traffic from just north of North Carriage Court to North Brookie Drive starting May 13, forcing drivers to detour around the work zone for paving and prep work until May 20. A second closure on the same stretch is scheduled for May 26 through May 29 for roadway striping, extending the disruption into the end of the month.

The closure will affect commuters, delivery trucks and school or work traffic that normally uses that part of North Spokane Street as a north-south connector. The City of Post Falls said residents inside the closure area who otherwise have no access to their property will be allowed through by the contractor at all times, and the entrance to North Brookie Drive will stay open from West Prairie Avenue. For drivers trying to reach homes or businesses in the area, West Prairie Avenue will be the key access point while the roadway is closed to through traffic.

City officials said crews will be preparing the area and paving the roadway as part of the work. That makes the shut down a short-term nuisance for nearby traffic, but it also fits into a larger pattern of street projects the city has been carrying out across Post Falls. The Post Falls Streets division says the city maintains more than 200 miles of streets, along with striping, snow removal and other maintenance work, and the city keeps a running list of project updates for ongoing transportation work.

The North Spokane Street closure also sits within the wider Spokane Street Rehabilitation Project, which the city lists as a major corridor upgrade between 4th Avenue and Seltice Way. That project was scheduled from April 7, 2025, to May 28, 2025, carried a listed cost of $1.8 million, and included asphalt replacement, stormwater improvements, sewer manhole repairs and replacement, and ADA pedestrian ramp work. Funding included a $1.17 million Idaho Transportation Department Strategic Initiatives Grant and $700,000 in District 1 pavement restoration funding. For Post Falls drivers, the latest closure is another reminder that the Spokane Street corridor remains part of a broader construction pattern, not a one-off repair.
