Remodel Underway at 101 E. Appleway for Idaho's First Crunch Fitness
Remodeling is underway at 101 E. Appleway Ave. to convert a roughly 32,000-square-foot former Big Lots into Idaho’s first Crunch Fitness, a project valued at about $5 million.

Remodeling crews have begun converting the former Big Lots at 101 E. Appleway Ave. into a roughly 32,000-square-foot Crunch Fitness, a locally reported project valued at about $5 million that will be the first Crunch club in Idaho and the Inland Northwest. No opening date has been announced, and Crunch Fitness Coeur d’Alene is posting updates and founder’s membership information on its Facebook page.
The planned club will include a wide range of cardio machines and weight machines, a boxing area, a functional fitness zone, and group fitness classes that include yoga and cycling. Post-workout amenities listed for the Appleway facility include Hydromassage, a sauna and tanning beds. Crunch’s new three-tier membership structure will be offered: the single-club Base tier at less than $15 per month, and multi-club Peak and Peak Results tiers priced between $25 and $35 per month, with the multi-club tiers including class access and other exclusive amenities.

The Coeur d’Alene arrival comes as Crunch operates more than 500 locations in the U.S. and maintains an international footprint in markets such as Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain and India. One of Crunch’s largest franchise groups, CR Fitness, currently operates 93 Crunch locations across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, expects to reach roughly 110 locations by 2026, and recently surpassed 1 million members nationwide. CR Fitness secured $350 million in growth capital from global investment firm Sixth Street to support the addition of more than 100 clubs; CR Fitness CEO Tony Scrimale said, “Reaching one million members is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. It represents millions of workouts, goals achieved and communities strengthened. We’re proud to grow alongside our members and continue expanding the Crunch experience across the country.”
Local commercial activity around Coeur d’Alene and neighboring Post Falls suggests the Appleway remodel is one piece of a broader development wave. Atlas Building Group plans a flex-space project on Schrieber Way with six units of roughly 2,000 to 2,300 square feet plus offices, one unit to be used by Atlas itself and construction possibly beginning as early as spring 2026. A 33-unit mixed-use building called Nonna is under construction across from Post Falls City Hall on Spokane Street with completion anticipated by October 2026, and Rooted Social House is being built at 310 N. Spokane St. together these projects indicate capital investment across retail and mixed-use corridors even as the Crunch club repurposes big-box inventory on Appleway.
Key details remain to be confirmed for the Appleway Crunch: the identity of the local franchisee operating the club, a contractor and construction timeline, exact staffing or job counts, and any traffic or parking changes tied to the 32,000-square-foot footprint. For prospective members, the three-tier pricing and founder’s membership notices are being posted to Crunch Fitness Coeur d’Alene’s Facebook page; the nearest existing Crunch locations are described locally as nearly 300 miles away, making this facility the region’s first immediate access point to the brand.
