Vehicle crashes into Rathdrum home, firefighters aid homeowners
A car ended up inside a Rathdrum home early Tuesday, but no one was hurt and firefighters helped the homeowners after the crash.

A vehicle slammed into a Rathdrum home early Tuesday morning, and Northern Lakes firefighters said they found one man inside the vehicle when crews arrived. No injuries were reported, but the crash left the homeowners dealing with damage and cleanup after a sudden impact inside their house.
Northern Lakes Fire District covers the greater Hayden, Rathdrum and Twin Lakes areas in Kootenai County, and it staffs two stations with 24/7 personnel, which put firefighters in position to reach the scene quickly. The district describes its work as all-hazards response and community risk reduction, a mandate that stretches beyond fire calls into fast help at messy, unexpected emergencies like a car in a home.
The district also provided benevolence funds to the homeowners. That fund has been used to help families during emergencies, including after losing a home to fire, and to assist firefighter families facing loss or medical hardship, giving the aid added weight after a property-damage call that could have been much worse.
The Rathdrum crash comes after other destructive property emergencies in the area that have shown how quickly a single incident can disrupt a neighborhood. In September 2024, a structure fire in Rathdrum burned multiple buildings and about 1.5 acres of wildland, and in October 2021, an explosion believed to be tied to a natural gas leak destroyed a Rathdrum home. Those incidents, along with Tuesday’s crash, underscore the vulnerability of homes when a fire, blast or vehicle turns a residence into an emergency scene.
