Vitalant Seeks April Blood Donors at Four Kootenai County Drives

Every eligible donor who gives blood at a participating April drive enters a sweepstakes for a $10,000 prepaid gift card, and Vitalant has scheduled four community drives across Kootenai County this month to give residents every opportunity to take part.

Drives are set for Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum on April 11, Buck Knives in Post Falls on April 15, J-U-B Engineers in Coeur d'Alene on April 22 and Hayden Lake Stake in Hayden on April 28. Donors who prefer a standing appointment can visit Vitalant's permanent center at 405 W. Neider Avenue in Coeur d'Alene.

The sweepstakes incentive lands against a backdrop of genuine regional need. Vitalant supplies nearly 200 units of blood every day to more than 25 hospitals across the Inland Northwest, a pipeline that includes trauma centers and surgical facilities serving Kootenai County. Type O blood carries particular urgency because it can be transfused before a patient's blood type is confirmed, making it the first blood type reached for when there is no time to wait on lab results.

Hosting drives at business and community sites, including a major manufacturing employer in Buck Knives and a prominent regional engineering firm in J-U-B Engineers, reflects Vitalant's approach to reaching donors beyond traditional clinic settings. Communities with consistent donor turnout help buffer hospital blood supplies during high-demand periods, reducing reliance on reactive emergency appeals.
