Lafayette County warns drivers about CR 421 closure, updates on CR 321 and CR 464

Drivers crossing Oxford and Lafayette County had to reroute around the 200 block of CR 421 after the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office said the roadway was closed there because of an accident. The office told motorists to avoid the area and use a detour, and its alerts linked through myocv.com for route updates.

The same office also posted an update on CR 321 and CR 464. In that notice, the road crew said both county roads were back open, after a closure that began about 8 a.m. July 23 on CR 321 near house #349. For anyone moving between homes, farms, businesses and school or delivery routes on the county road grid, the combination of a crash closure and a separate maintenance shutdown meant slower trips and a need to check the latest detours before heading out.

Lafayette County’s own road map and the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s county highway map both show CR 421, CR 321 and CR 464 as part of the local network that connects communities around Oxford. That makes even short-term closures disruptive, especially when a single county road is the easiest link for daily commutes or truck traffic moving through the area.

The sheriff’s office, led by Sheriff Joey East at 711 Jackson Ave. East in Oxford, is responsible for law enforcement in Lafayette County and the administration of the Lafayette County Jail. Its public X account has become one of the county’s fastest ways to push out road alerts, and the office has used it repeatedly for roadway closures and reopenings.

County road disruptions have also tracked with scheduled state work in the past. On April 4, 2025, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said road work in Oxford and Lafayette County would begin Monday, April 7, underscoring how local drivers often face a mix of emergency closures and planned maintenance across the same road system.
