Local students earn Mississippi State academic honors for spring semester

Mississippi State University recognized Lafayette County students for spring 2026 academic honors, placing them on the President’s List and Dean’s List. The July 25 recognition gave Oxford-area families a concrete measure of how local graduates are performing once they leave home for college.

For Lafayette County, the honor rolls are more than a campus announcement. They are one of the few public records that let residents track where students from Oxford, Abbeville, Taylor and Harmontown land after high school, and whether they are keeping pace in a demanding university setting. Mississippi State’s student-lists system is built for that kind of local lookup, with filters for state of residence, home county for Mississippi students and city.

The university has said those lists are posted each spring and fall semester for the convenience of media, friends and family members, and the same public system also includes graduation lists. Mississippi State has also noted that some student names may not appear because of privacy requests under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. A June 2023 newsroom update said the deans’ and president’s lists were available online through the student-lists page, showing that the university has maintained the practice for years.

The honors themselves carry clear academic standards. Mississippi State’s Dean’s List is reserved for students who earn a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.79 on a 4.0 scale. The President’s List is the higher distinction, marking a perfect 4.0 GPA. That makes the recognition a record of sustained classroom performance, not a participation award.

That distinction matters in a county where education is closely tied to future jobs, scholarships and graduate school opportunities. When local students show up on Mississippi State’s honor rolls, they strengthen Lafayette County’s college pipeline and give schools, parents and employers a visible sign that area graduates are competing successfully at a major public university. Mississippi State’s long-running student-lists system, which covers Spring, Summer and Fall terms, keeps that record public semester after semester.
