The Oxford Garden Club will bring its first flower show in recent memory to the Oxford Conference Center on Thursday, March 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the show is open to the public under the theme "'Round About Oxford."

The event departs sharply from conventional flower show formats, where members typically display blooms in matching vases. Instead, the show will spotlight creative floral design techniques across a wide range of containers and nontraditional presentations, making it something Oxford has not seen from the club in quite some time.

The show's rulebook, formally called the flower show schedule, was written by three Oxford residents: Nan Davis, Barbara McIntosh and Patricia Weathersby. Together, the trio brings more than 50 years of combined experience as National Garden Clubs Master Flower Show Judges, credentials that shaped both the structure and the creative direction of the event.

Davis offered a preview of what attendees can expect. "The public should expect floral arrangements that are not bound by customary patterns or styles. They are abstract rather than traditional, designed with a relationship between form and space," she said.

The Oxford Garden Club is active well beyond a single afternoon showcase. The group plants trees for Arbor Day, runs "feeding the birds" programs at local schools and the farmers market, decorates the Lafayette County Courthouse and the Chancery Building with Christmas greenery each year, leads floral activities with Oxford's senior community, and delivers plants and flowers to residents at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.

The March 26 show runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Oxford Conference Center and costs nothing to attend.
