Lake County closes Airport Road to through traffic at rail crossing

The shutdown is not a full blockade of the corridor. Lake County said Airport Road remains open to residents and local traffic on either side of the rail crossing, but the crossing itself will not be open to highway traffic while crews remove and upgrade the rail infrastructure. The county’s notice gives residents a short planning horizon, but a firm one: work began Monday at 6 a.m. and is expected to finish Friday at 7 p.m. That schedule should help limit confusion for people in Two Harbors and elsewhere in the area who rely on Airport Road as a practical link rather than a destination.
