Barn Fire Spreads to Nearby Buildings, Residence West of Eugene

A barn fire in the 87000 block of Halderson Road west of Eugene spread to two adjacent buildings Monday afternoon, including one being used as a residence, before Lane Fire Authority crews contained the blaze.

LFA firefighters were dispatched at about 2 p.m. on March 9 to the rural Veneta-area property. Crews arrived to find the barn fully involved in fire, with flames already reaching two nearby structures. One of those structures was being used as a residence at the time of the fire.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading further, according to LFA officials. No people were injured in the blaze, but one family pet was lost.

The cause of the fire has not been reported, and no damage estimates were available from the information released by LFA. No named LFA spokesperson or official was identified in the initial release.

The Veneta area sits roughly 15 miles west of Eugene along Highway 126, and the Halderson Road address places the fire in a stretch of rural Lane County where agricultural properties and residential outbuildings are common. Lane Fire Authority serves a broad swath of western Lane County, including communities such as Veneta, Elmira, and Crow.
