Crash on Coburg Beltline on-ramp sends one to hospital, closes traffic

A crash on the Coburg Beltline westbound on-ramp near Coburg Road left a vehicle on its side, sent one person to the hospital and briefly jammed one of Eugene’s busiest commuter connectors.

Eugene police closed traffic in the area around 9 a.m. on July 13 while crews worked the scene. The westbound on-ramp from Coburg Road to the Beltline Highway was shut down, and a separate traffic update showed both northbound and southbound lanes of Coburg Road near Beltline were blocked during the response.

The overturned car carried one adult and three children. One person was taken to the hospital, but their condition was not known at the time. Emergency crews stayed on scene to direct traffic until tow trucks could remove the vehicles, and the roadway cleared and reopened at about 11:30 a.m.

It also showed how vulnerable the Coburg Road and Beltline interchange can be when a crash blocks a ramp and forces police to hold traffic while the scene is cleared.

No immediate fault determination was announced, and the cause of the crash was not detailed in the initial reports. What was clear by late morning was the impact on movement through the area: a closed on-ramp, blocked lanes on Coburg Road near Beltline and more than two hours of disruption before traffic opened back up.
