Deputies arrest woman after knife assault north of Junction City
A 62-year-old man was badly wounded in a knife attack north of Junction City, and deputies later arrested a Cheshire woman after a two-hour search.

A 62-year-old man was badly wounded after being struck in the head with a knife at a home in the 95400 block of Noraton Road north of Junction City, and Lane County deputies later arrested a 31-year-old Cheshire woman after a two-hour search that ended with a witness spotting her in town.
Lane County Sheriff's Office deputies and a Junction City Police officer were called to the rural property at about 11 p.m. on April 30. When they arrived, the man was bleeding severely. Lane County Fire personnel took him to an area hospital for treatment, and the sheriff's office identified the case as LCSO Case 26-2139.
The suspect, Jeannae Marjorie Mackay, had already run from the scene before deputies reached the property. Law enforcement searched the area for about two hours without finding her, a response that stretched across the countryside north of Junction City before a witness later saw Mackay in Junction City. Deputies responded and arrested her without further incident.

Mackay was lodged at the Lane County Jail on allegations of Assault in the 1st Degree, Burglary in the 1st Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Under Oregon law, first-degree assault can apply when a person intentionally causes serious physical injury to another by means of a deadly or dangerous weapon. First-degree burglary is a Class A felony when a person uses or threatens to use a dangerous weapon, or causes or attempts to cause physical injury while effecting entry, remaining in, or fleeing from a building.
The sheriff's office said the Junction City Police Department and area residents helped with the case. That cooperation mattered in a part of Lane County where violent calls are uncommon enough to draw a fast, wide response from deputies, city police, and fire personnel. Lane County's 2020 Census population was 382,971, while Junction City had 6,947 residents, a contrast that helps explain why a single assault on a rural road can quickly become a major local public-safety incident.
