Dumpster Fire Spreads to Shed at Eugene Apartment Complex, No Injuries Reported
A dumpster fire at Valley River Court Apartments jumped to a shed attached to single-car garages late Sunday before Engine 9 contained it in minutes.
A dumpster fire at Valley River Court Apartments on Goodpasture Loop jumped to a nearby shed late Sunday night, sending Eugene Springfield Fire crews racing to the 4300 block with a first-alarm response before quickly bringing the blaze under control.
ESF crews were dispatched at 11:33 p.m. on March 15 after callers reported the fire had already spread beyond the dumpster. The spread prompted dispatchers to upgrade the call to a first-alarm response before firefighters even arrived on scene. Engine 9 pulled up roughly four minutes later to find the shed fully involved in flames.
The burning shed was attached to a row of single-car garages, raising the stakes for crews working to keep the fire from claiming the entire structure. Firefighters contained the blaze quickly, limiting the damage to the shed and some adjacent portions of the building, according to ESF. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
