Equipment Issue Cuts Power to 1,500 EPUD Customers Across Lane County

An equipment failure knocked out power for approximately 1,500 Emerald People's Utility District customers across parts of Lane County on Tuesday afternoon, hitting areas of Pleasant Hill, Creswell and Eugene.

EPUD crews worked quickly to restore service, and by the time of reporting had brought power back to the bulk of those affected. EPUD confirmed that power was restored to the Pleasant Hill and Eugene areas, with most of Creswell also back online.

The recovery was not complete, however. Fifty customers remained without power after the outage, with the hold-up traced to a specific stretch of the district's network. Crews located the fault and isolated it to West Lane in Creswell, where repairs were still underway at the time of reporting.

No estimated restoration time for the remaining customers was provided. EPUD said crews were working to complete repairs and return service to the final group still affected.

The outage's cause was described only as an equipment issue. No injuries, downed lines, or hazardous conditions were reported in connection with the failure. EPUD is a not-for-profit electric utility that serves more than 20,000 meters in Lane County.
