Eugene Gains New Coffee House as Arable Brewing Closes Its Doors
Alchemy Coffee House soft-launched at 545 E Eighth Ave, while Arable Brewing permanently closed its West Eugene location.

Rebekah Sapp had a specific vision when she took on the general manager role at Alchemy Coffee House: a space that feels rooted in the past without alienating anyone who walks through the door. The new, book-ish coffee shop soft-launched at 545 E Eighth Ave, near Eugene's Riverfront district, with Sapp describing her hopes for an "old-world feel" and an atmosphere she calls "cozy but not pretentious."
The opening arrives alongside the permanent closure of Arable Brewing, the West Eugene gathering spot that drew regulars for pints and conversation over the years. No reason for the closure has been announced. Community members who frequented the space "are bummed to see them go," according to the Register-Guard, which first reported both developments.
Together, the two moves mark a notable week of turnover in Eugene's food-and-drink landscape. One neighborhood loses a brewery that served as a third space for many; another gains a coffee house angling to fill a similar role through a different lens, with books and a quieter atmosphere rather than taps.
Sapp has not announced a grand opening date beyond the soft launch, and Arable Brewing has not issued a public statement about its closure timeline or plans for the West Eugene facility.
