Eugene home invasion leaves two injured in Churchill shooting
A late-night break-in on Oak Patch Road sent Eugene police, SWAT and medics to Churchill after shots were fired inside a home and two people were hospitalized.

A late-night break-in in the Churchill area turned into a shooting on the 1600 block of Oak Patch Road, sending Eugene police, emergency medical crews and multiple specialized units to a residential stretch of west Eugene.
Eugene police said officers were called at 1:07 a.m. on May 19 after a man inside the home reported that someone had broken in and was firing shots. He told police he fired back. When officers arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.
Eugene Springfield Fire took over medical care at the scene and transported the injured people to a local hospital. Police said the incident remained under active investigation, and investigators were still working to sort out who entered the house and how the exchange of gunfire unfolded.

The response was large enough to bring in SWAT, the Crisis Negotiation Team, the Drone team, the Violent Crimes Unit and the Forensic Evidence Unit. That mix of tactical, investigative and forensic resources pointed to a scene police treated as volatile and uncertain, not a routine burglary call.
The neighborhood impact was immediate. The shooting happened in a residential part of Churchill, where a call involving gunfire inside a home can unsettle nearby residents long after officers leave. For Lane County readers, the practical question is not only what happened inside that house, but how quickly emergency crews and detectives could secure the area, treat the injured and begin piecing together whether the break-in was targeted or random.

The Eugene Police Department identified the case as 26-07452 and asked anyone with tips to call 541-682-5111. The Register-Guard later described the incident as an attempted home burglary that turned into a shooting and said two men were hospitalized.
